Meet Oreo. He is our 3yr old Jack-chi. Oreo loves to sleep under blankets, go for rides in the car, and play tug-of-war. He is also a tattletale! Let me tell you why I say that.
Earlier this week I was playing hide-and-seek with my toddler before nap time. As you might guess, it’s an easy game to play with a kid this age. He Always giggles loudly while he’s “hiding.” He wants to be found and will yell for me if he thinks I’m taking too long. Like most kids I’ve played this game with, he always goes to the same couple of spots.
When I hide it is typically a little more of a challenge for him, but this time was different. This time Oreo decided to join the fun and help him! Every time I hid he followed me. My son only had to find the dog, who was not hiding at all, and he found me too. One time I hid behind the bathroom door, and Oreo stood in the middle of the bathroom, staring at me and wagging his tail. When I hid behind the kitchen peninsula, he stood in the middle of the kitchen prancing around playfully. Then I hid in my room next to the bookshelf, and the dog stood next to the bookshelf and barked at me until my son came and found me! I jokingly told Oreo to go away and quit being a tattletale, but he was persistent!
Later I was thinking about it, and I felt the Lord say to me, “I want my people to be more like that, You need to be tattling on me!”
You know, it’s kind of humbling to be told you need to be more like your dog. I could have just blown it off or been offended, but I know He’s right. God’s people need to tattle on God to the people of this world. We need to say, “Hey everyone, He’s over here! Come find Him! I see Him! Look over here!” It’s important to be persistent in showing people where He is, every time He moves! We need to be joyful in doing the work of pointing out where Jesus is. If we are standing in plain sight, full of joy and pointing out the way, anyone who is really looking will easily find Him! This includes sharing our testimony and talking about what God is doing in our lives!
Jeremiah 29:13 says, “And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” What an honor it is to be ready for God to use us as part of someone’s journey to finding Him. If someone is searching for Jesus, we can be someone in their lives to show them where He is. They may not even know what they are searching for, but we do! What a blessing to be used by the Lord! And what a blessing it is to find a tattletale for the Lord who will point us in the right direction!
I want to leave you with another passage to encourage you today as you strive to help others find Jesus.
“You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp-stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16
