Bible/ Devotion Book Review

Leaving Your Mom Legacy by, Kristina Gorr – A Book Review and a Giveaway!

Moms, have you ever thought about the legacy you’re leaving for your children? About how the things you teach them will be with them all their lives? How your lessons will be passed down to your grand and great-grand children? Do you ever wonder how they will remember you when you are no longer with them? I recently had the pleasure of reading the book Leaving Your Mom Legacy by Kristina Gorr, and it addresses these topics and more! I’m pretty excited about it, and I just had to share it with you all!

**Note, in exchange for this review I did receive a free copy of the book. However, the opinions I express here are 100% my own.**

Leaving Your Mom Legacy

To start with, I have to warn you, you are going to want a notebook and/or a highlighter handy when you go through this devotional book. There times you may want to make a note of something that speaks to you. At the end of each day there are reflection guides as well, and you may want to journal through them. Don’t forget to keep your Bible close by as well! A devotional should not replace your Bible reading, but compliment and enhance the time you spend with God in this way.

Before I read this book I had not thought much about the legacy I was leaving for my children. I am often too busy thinking about the rest of this day or this week. However, Leaving Your Mom Legacy has helped me to shift my thinking. I need to be more concerned with my children’s future, here and eternally, than I have been. Their dirty laundry and homework in the here and now, are not nearly as important as the condition of their heart and where they will one day call home.

One thing I love about Leaving Your Mom Legacy is how it goes through the lives of several mothers in the Bible. Specifically mothers that are part of the lineage of our Savior, Jesus! These mothers were not perfect, they had made mistakes. They faced hardship that was beyond their control. However, like Kristina emphasizes, they were still considered worthy by God to be mentioned in the Bible, and to be fore-mothers of His Son! This fact gives me, personally, so much hope. The mistakes of our past do not condemn us to be bad mothers. We build our legacy from today forward, one Christ centered decision at a time!

Another thing I love about this parenting devotional is that it gives us a practical and God centered plan for building our legacy. Each day during the second half of Leaving Your Mom Legacy, Kristina concentrates on teaching our children and being an example to them. They follow where we walk, so we need to do our best to walk in faith! What does walking in faith look like? What kind of example do I need to be? This book answers those questions.

This devotional is one I will be revisiting. There is so much “meat” to it, that I’m sure I didn’t pick it all up the first time through. All the factors that go into creating the legacy we want to leave will not be mastered  during a one time read! This is a book that should be read, and studied, time and time again.

  1. Thanks for the recommendation. While I’m not a mom, I am a dad, and I also have mothers in my life who would benefit from this book. In general, as a parent, I all too often forget that the important things in parenting are the eternal lessons. All the worldly chores will take care of themselves (well, they’re temporary anyway) and I should refocus. Thanks for reinforcing that point.

  2. Thank you for this review and recommendation. I have been thinking a lot about legacy lately and would love a tool to help me stress it to others. Thanks.

  3. This sounds like a great book! Several years ago I listened to a sermon by Voddie Bachum about leaving a legacy and it has stuck with me ever since. I even bought a copy of it so I could listen to it after it was removed from You Tube. I misplaced it during our last move, so hopefully I’ll win this giveaway 🙂

  4. Sounds like a great book! I’m not a mom (hopefully will be at some point!), but these thoughts on leaving a legacy are great to ponder now, too. And not just for motherhood, but for life in general!

  5. So important to be intentional about our legacy. We will leave one even if we don’t become intentional–but it may not be the one we would want. Such an important message. Sounds like a great gift too! Thanks and God bless!

  6. Hi Jennifer!

Sure, I have some personal goals and ideas about what I’ll leave for my children.

What would you say sets this devotional apart from other devotionals you’ve read?

    With love!

    1. Good morning Edna!
This devotional is different from others I’ve read because it’s the first parenting devotional I’ve ever read. I’ve gone through several that deal with our personal walk with the Lord, but this is the first one that encourages our walk with a parenting perspective.
      Thank you for visiting!
